Sunday: Grandma

Tonight we went to visit Ben's grandma in the hospital. :(  It was an unexpected visit, and so I didn't plan ahead for feeding and napping with Isaac like I normally try to do if we leave the house.  However, Isaac loved the hospital.  He always does seem to enjoy new places and places with people.  He did really well...he waited on his nap and he skipped a snack.  It's nice that he can be flexible like that.

(He also went to nursery this morning during church and his report was that he played and played and played and played.  :)   )

(Maybe I should have called this post Isaac instead of Grandma.  She was in good spirits when we left.)

Saturday: magnets

We got a lovely surprise in the mail today!  Liz sent us some fall magnets she made.

Here Isaac is trying to eat the ghost.  Or  he's saying ":|"  I know this isn't the best picture, but I like Flurry in the background too.

In this one he's tasting the pumpkin pie with a spider on his head.  We had a hard time convincing him that he shouldn't eat this pie.  He was unfazed by the spider, probably because we have several in the house already.

Thursday: naps

I find that when I'm getting Isaac ready for a nap, I tend to get tired also.  Yesterday was a very bad napping day for us.  So today when he went down for his second nap, I decided to take a second nap also.  And I woke up before him.  It was awesome.

(To be fair, I also enjoy not napping when Isaac naps.  I get so much done!)

Wednesday: more rooms

I have two more rooms in the house that are unpacked, clean, and set up. :)

The bathroom.  (I made the shower curtain and it took a while, which is why this room took a while to show.  There are tons of bath toys behind it.)

If you come to visit us and end up taking a shower behind it, you'll have this cool view:

The living room is also finished!  The last finishing touch was that I finally organized the stuff in some built-in shelves.  Oh, the lighting is rather bad.  Oh well, you still get the idea.

Tuesday: why I'm a mean mother

For our luncheon dessert, I gave Isaac peas.  I had a rice krispie bar.  And I ate it in front of him.

Monday: still smart

(While we had a lot of fun with his shirt, which says "Physics Dept" on it, it seems like a limited market.  I'm still trying to figure out why someone thought it was a sell-able item.)

Sunday: smartest baby ever

It's true; we have the smartest baby ever.  Take a look at this picture...

1) Pockets: Isaac put a toy in his pocket all by himself.  I thought Ben had done it when I found it, but Ben had no idea what I was talking about.
2) Anatomy: Isaac knows is anatomy and that hearts go in your upper chest.  (Oh, the toy is the heart from his puzzle.)  He could have put it in his leg pocket, but that's not where hearts go.
3) Time passing: Isaac pulled the heart out of his pocket later on in the kitchen to play with.  He knew that the only way to play with it upstairs was to save it in his pocket and not draw attention to it for a while.

Saturday : how much?

How much snot can one baby have? Ugh.
Also, How much food can they eat? Isaac inhaled his food today.

Thursday: pillows

At an undetermined time, early in the morning.

Amanda (possibly, or possibly not, understandably): Do you need a pillow?
Ben: Yes

Amanda gently whacks her pillow on Ben.

Amanda (thinking): Wait, now I don't have a pillow.  Oh well.
Ben (thinking): I thought she said I had to move over.

This really isn't very funny, but I've literally been laughing about it all day.  You see, I got new pillows for us last week.  It was sad, as the old pillows are the correct thinness and it always takes new pillows a while to get there.  But we've had them for a while and they were probably rather gross.  The new ones are too big.  I think I was thinking that I had two.

Anyway, today I got two additional new ones.  The nice thing about liking thin pillows is that they're often the cheapest.  Hopefully they'll work.

All four naked pillows were on the bed and Flurry was curled up there too.  She was doing a good job imitating as a pillow, but I still found her.

Wednesday: rivals

Today we went to see Betsy and Ethan.  None of my pictures turned out, but luckily Betsy's did.

They started as friends.

But turned into bitter rivals.  Doesn't it look like Isaac is about to punch Ethan?

We went for a walk and saw a snake!  At least Betsy and I did.  Isaac refused to look.

Tuesday: At the tone, the time will be...

I put Isaac down for his afternoon nap.  He was almost falling asleep while eating, so I thought he would go right to sleep.  He didn't.  He cried for a few minutes.  Then he found his socks.  He spent fifteen minutes playing with and eating his socks.  About ten minutes into listening him jabber to his socks I decided I was sick of waiting and so would close my eyes.

Of course, he started crying again.  I told myself I had to open my eyes to look at the clock so I didn't let him cry too long.  Ok.  Ready?  Set?  Open.  The time is blue shirt.  Phew.  I can close my eyes.  Ok, blue shirt plus ten minutes is...

Wait a minute!  I didn't actually open my eyes!  Was I dreaming?

Sigh.  I managed to do so on the second attempt.  Flurry had cuddled with me by this time so I really was hoping Isaac would go to sleep.  He did.  So did I.

Sunday: be glad this didn't happen to your house

Chickens Invade!

The sign says "We have hatched a plot most fowl."

Chickens multiply.

Saturday: nap

Right as Ben was waking up I put Isaac down for his first nap of the day (8:30am, on this day). I was excited because Ben could listen for and take care of Isaac.

I proceeded to take a 2.5 hour nap. I was rather surprised to see the clock read 11 when I finally woke up.

Friday: getting bigger

In the past week, three separate waitress/hostess people have asked us if Isaac needs a children's menu or to order something.  He must be getting bigger and looking older if they're asking. :)

Thursday: theme day - frogs

Today's theme day was frogs.  We said a lot of ribbit-ribbits.

We went for a frog hunt.
(We didn't find any.)

We learned that frogs exist in different habitats.

We captured one.

(I was having trouble with all the pictures today...sorry.  But this one you can clearly see frog eyes in two places, so I thought it was cool.)

Another habitat is the basement.

There are brown frogs and dragonflies (on my bandana) live around frogs.

There are orange frogs.  The green frog and orange frog proceeded to kick around a new pillow that was in plastic.  On the hardwood floors, it went far and spun easily.  And it was hilarious to both frogs, but especially to the green one.

Frogs exist in wet climates.

Wednesday: story time

Today we went to story time at the library.  We've gone a few times, but this is the first time that Isaac seemed to interact a little bit.  Or maybe he just liked looking at other babies.  He still does not like things on his head...one of the songs involved covering his eyes for a peek-a-boo, but it took too long between the cover and the reveal and he was able to yank my hands off.

edit: oh bother, I actually had an interesting topic for today.  Luckily it's a general topic so you can get it again later.

Tuesday: dinner

Ben and I brought dinner to a couple that just had a baby tonight.  It worked well because the baby was not having a happy afternoon, so the parents would not have had much time to make dinner.  The baby is so small...it's amazing how much Isaac has grown in the last eight months.

And Isaac was super cute.  As almost always.

Monday: quilt

Today I finished my Tetris quilt.  I've been working hard to get it done by tonight...it was really a little bit too fast of a pace for me.  I should have done the quilting differently or ignored the "deadline."  I needed about three or four more days for it to be a comfortable pace.

Anyway, Isaac wanted to help a lot today.  I had it spread out to tie off the thread ends and get the lint off and he kept getting in the way.  A lot like Flurry always does, but at least Isaac doesn't shed.

(You can see more pictures here if you're really interested.

Sunday: hmm

Hmm...I thought I had a subject to post about today, but I don't remember what it was.  We were getting ready for church this morning when we realized it was actually at 10am for a special service and that we missed it.  Then we went to Arby's for breakfast only to find out they have stopped serving breakfast.

I probably should have gone to bed a while ago.

Saturday: inch worm

Isaac finally let me tape him crawling.  Or inch worming, as I like to call it.

Thursday: digital read outs

In this day and age of technology, I would like more than an instruction manual for babies. I would like some digital read outs. The most important being how long the baby is going to sleep for before (s)he wakes up.

Wednesday: light switch

A light switch turned on in Isaac's head over the last two days.  If you'll recall, on Monday we were excited that Isaac crawled a foot.  And that foot was a struggle.  Today he crawled from Ben to me (three feet away) and then to back to Ben and then back to me within about three minutes.  We looked at each other and were rather amazed.  It's so fun to watch his little body move...and actually get somewhere.

Monday: baby gate

As Isaac gets more mobile (he crawled a good foot today!), we decided it was time to put up the baby gate.  It was a bit more of a hassle than we were hoping for, but it seems to be working fine.

We know it's a little high, but Isaac won't be able to get all the way under it and Flurry still can.  (I really like this picture.  It's hard to see in the small view, but he really looks scared.)

Sunday: mini golf

We went mini-golfing yesterday.  It was fun...and a good activity to do as a family.

Isaac was not very excited about my hole in one.  Ben won overall though. :)

I also found this cute picture on my camera.

Saturday: 8 months/35 weeks

It's picture overload time again.  I'll start with the normal two pictures:

And then we have some nice 8 month pictures.  (I didn't edit/crop them like the 6mo ones, but at least I could if I ever get that ambitious).

The last one looks like he is concentrating so hard on his name and getting the A in the right spot.  However, the puzzle is upside-down. :)

Every single one on the couch ended with this series of shots:

Isaac is getting rather mobile.  He has a hard time crawling (he does an inch worm thing), but he can roll.  And lunge.  He's also started clapping.  And eating more food by himself.  He got rid of the pacifier and is now sleeping better, although a runny nose the last few days has made it a little harder again.
