Thursday: hmmm

Hmmm...today...

I ran the Roomba in the office.  It wasn't the first time that I've done so, but it still managed to pick up so much stuff!  I was actually rather surprised.  Where does it come from?

I'm looking for a daycare/childcare for Isaac in the fall.  I don't need a ton of time, but do need to pretty big chunks.  I went to one on Tuesday and came back with a *meh* impression, although I've heard it's good.  I went to one today and liked it a lot more, but it was also a lot more expensive.  I think I have a few other people/places to look at yet.  Luckily, it seems to be pretty easy to get Isaac a spot.  I think he will be old enough to not be considered an infant and won't need the highest caregiver to child ratio.  I'd still like to get it settled though.

Then we got to go to the fabric store!  Isaac is starting to enjoy playing with fabric...it rivaled the rock that he also had with him.  A friend and his young son joined us and I had the following (one-sided) conversation with the son:

Son, running at me: Dadadada
Me: No, I'm Mom.  Wait a minute, that's not right.  I'm Amanda.
Friend: laughs.

It's just so natural to say, "No, I'm Mom" when someone says dadada at me.

Tuesday: me

Lately I feel like my blog has turned into a blog about Isaac.  While I do like this, because I like Isaac, I kind of wish that it was a little less about him.  However, I spend most of my day with him.  And chores are (often) boring to talk about.

I don't think I'm going to change anything.  Although I have been thinking that in a few years I might make the blog hidden.  I think everything that Isaac does is cute, but I don't want his classmates to find it unless Isaac is ok with it.  I expect that I have a few years though...we'll see if blogging is even still around.

It was supposed to rain all day but didn't.  Well, it did rain for thirty minutes when I was hoping to be outside for library story time.  The weather people keep saying to expect severe thunderstorms so I'm expecting them!  And being let down.

We ate home-grown lettuce in our salads for dinner.  It's the first of the veggies.

Tuesday: traffic jam

Today I had a lawn mower traffic jam as my neighbor and I were mowing the same area of our respective lawns.

When's the last time that's happened to you?

Monday: beach

Isaac and I hit the beach again today with his cousins.  It was a grey day, and a bit cool, but I wasn't cold.  And they had a great time.  It took Isaac a while to warm up to the idea of playing in the sand.  He just sat with me for a while.  Then he found a stash of rocks, so he played with those for a while.  I put his sandals back on while he was playing with the rocks...I think the texture of the sand might have been annoying him. Then he slowly started playing with the sand.  He didn't make it to the water, but maybe next time.

More rocks!

Sunday: "ok, maybe that's fine"

Isaac often makes me rethink my "rules".  It's not really a good or bad thing, it just is.

For example, today he was playing in the water left in the shower.  At first I thought this was a bad thing to do and tried to persuade him not to.  However, when he went back to the shower rather quickly and I decided that maybe it didn't really matter.  There wasn't even enough water to get more than his hands wet and there wasn't anything dangerous in the shower.  He was happy.

But just so you don't think I'm a complete push over, I didn't let him open and close the sliding door when Flurry could have escaped.  This caused lots of tears.

Saturday: a parable brought to life

The Parable of the Lost Coin

“Or suppose a woman has ten silver coins[a] and loses one. Doesn’t she light a lamp, sweep the house and search carefully until she finds it?And when she finds it, she calls her friends and neighbors together and says, ‘Rejoice with me; I have found my lost coin.’ 10 In the same way, I tell you, there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.”  Luke 15: 8-10 NIV (biblegateway.com)

Isaac had lost two coins from his piggy bank toy.  Ben and I have been looking all over for them this last week.  I found them this morning!  They were in the front of his bus toy...hard to see unless you're at the correct angle and the colors were the same, making them even harder to spot.

So today we celebrated!!  I know, it's not the same as having a person come to Christ, but it did remind me how exciting such an event is.  We started with donuts.

Then Isaac played so well in the morning while Ben was sleeping.  He probably played for about two hours with minimal interventions from me, which is a huge change from the last several weeks.  I enjoyed it with a lot of quilting time.  This afternoon we went the library, the new frozen yogurt place, and the Peanut Store.  After dinner we spent a bit rolling the coins back and forth.  Well, Ben and I rolled the coins.  Isaac yelled excitedly and ran around.

(We still have all the coins.)

It was a great day.

Friday: creepers

Look what came in the mail!  A family of creepers.

Isaac really wanted to play with them.  Probably because his creeper was the happy one.

To protect the creepers (which, yes, does seem a little backwards to me), they got a place of honor by the sink.  I had one shelf left to fill, so this family is perfect for it.
(And it even looks like I have a clean kitchen!)

Thanks Zach and Jenny for such a fun surprise!
