Vacation Thursday: Happy 4th of July!

Happy Fourth of July!  (I know, I'm a bit late with this blog post and can only remember the items with pictures.  It at least gives a long recap though.  There are only two more days to go!)

The kids made star biscuits for breakfast.  It held Isaac's interest until they were out of ingredients.

Joshua mainly enjoyed eating them.

From a small picture, it looks like Katy is holding a big bag of water.  Luckily, it was just aluminum foil...

...for bacon!  I'll admit, this was some of the best bacon I've had.  Just the right of crunchy without being too crunchy.

There were lots of 4th of July celebration items!

Everyone had brought patriotic clothes to wear.  Except us.  I have two boys and just let them wear whatever they want and they don't care about matching clothes to a certain day.  However, we were able to find some good options.  Two shirts with flags, one shirt with red/white/blue and my dress with blue and white and almost red.

Everyone also took family pictures outside.  I would say that the pictures below show such good behavior...they are trying so hard to get a good picture.  But it just didn't work and instead turned out hilarious.

We finally put sunglasses on them.  That's just how we roll.

Here's the group picture.

We were waiting for a few kids to get one last picture.  We made funny faces in the meantime.

This is also the first day Isaac played Dominion.  (We've played so many games since...)

And water balloons!  These were the new fangled kind that you can fill up 30 (or so) in a minute.  It was rather awesome.  The down side is that they aren't completely sealed, so you need to use them up "quickly."  Not a problem.  For the second batch we made them run back and forth between the stash and the throwing area to make it take more time.  (Joshua did a little bit with throwing and then played with some off by himself.)

Such hard work required ice pops!

The kids (and Heather) made some more star food for our 4th of July feast.

Ryan had some more ice pops.  This was number five, but I feel like he got up to 11 by the end of the day.

After dinner we went to the designated place for setting off fireworks.  We had only gotten the small kind, but it was still fun.  On the way everyone had another ice pop.

Pop rocks.  We don't get anything when we're by ourselves for the 4th, so everything was cool.  Joshua (not pictured because we had too many fireworks pictures and I got sick of looking at them) took his own sweet time and enjoyed every single one.

I have no idea what Isaac is trying to show here, but we had some nice rainbow glasses to watch with.

Sparklers!

This is one of my favorite from the night.

Ben got his hands on a lot of sparklers.

There were also glow sticks!  Oh, my kids loved these too.  They were still loved when they stopped glowing.

Tuesday: Joshua's birthday party

Joshua had been looking forward to this day for a "long time."  He told Ben this morning to make sure to be home in time to eat the cake, because it was chocolate and he knew Ben likes chocolate.  (He mentioned this to me a few times today too, and I'm not really sure why it was so much on his mind.)

He wore a polo today and looked very grown up.

Dinner of choice was dino nuggets, strawberries, crunchy beans, and chips.  I added some radishes at the last minute too.

He was so excited for his presents!

The cake said "Happy Birthday Puppy" again this year.  He didn't have strong feelings on whether to go with Puppy or Joshua though, so I wouldn't be surprised if next year we have a Joshua again.  The ice cream had chocolate chunks and he talked about them for quite a while while eating.

Monday: swimming lessons

The boys had their first swimming lessons of the season (finally).

Joshua did so much better than I was expecting.  There were several times I could tell that he was not happy to be there, but he kept going.  He's been fragile lately, so I wasn't really sure how it would go.  He even swam a little bit by himself with flippers.

Isaac did a ton better than I expected too.  He managed to swim a bit under half the pool by himself, which he couldn't do at the end of last summer.  I'm not sure where that (in-progress) skill came from, but I'm glad to see it!

So yeah, a great start!

Sunday: made it

Joshua had a hard time today.  With everything, but especially with his snack.  He chose blueberry pizza and I wouldn't let him change to ice cream because the decision had already taken so long.  I ended up going outside and letting him whine/cry it out.  Isaac joined me.

After supper Joshua and I took a walk around the lake.  It was so quiet.  There was no traffic and we spoke about ten words to each other before Joshua fell asleep.

When we got back Isaac told us that he had changed his mind and wanted to scooter around the lake.  So we went around again.

Saturday: garrisons and memory

While Ben and I were sleeping this morning the boys set up a garrison in Isaac's room.  I was glad that 1) it wasn't in our room and 2) it was easier to get in and out in case of "emergency", of which there weren't any.

We were looking through our Lego Minifigure container this morning when Joshua suddenly says, "Mom, this guy goes to the Lego present."  He's been crazily accurate with this stuff before, so I took it, brought it upstairs and checked the instructions.  Sure enough, there he was.

In other news, I feel like I got a lot done today.  And I took a short bike ride, which was really quite nice.

Friday: on food

Joshua had his last Elephant and Piggie class.  Parents got to watch.

Being big Elephants:

Doing the disco (it was in the play)

Doing a bit of the choreography from "Ice Cream Hero".  Joshua is in the front on the right of the picture in a white shirt.

We sadly went grocery shopping this afternoon.  Not sad in that we don't want food, but sad in that it wasn't what we wanted to do.  However, we were all out of milk.  It turned out there were several good sales on things we could stock up on, and the shopping trip got a bit out of control.  Several things will need to wait until next trip.

Isaac lost yet another tooth this morning.  I'm not sure how he's going to eat.  He doesn't have any other loose teeth currently, so maybe his mouth will be able to catch up.
